Sellers will not seek re-election

Clay County Tax Assessor-Collector Linda Sellers has announced that she will not seek re-election during November’s general election.

“After 20 years as your tax collector-assessor, I have decided to retire at the end of 2012,” said Sellers.

Sellers began her career with Clay County on Sept. 17, 1987, as an employee of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. She worked for Sheriff Jake Bogard until 1991, when she was appointed by the Clay County Commissioners to fill the term of tax assessor-collector left vacant by Tom Whitley.

Sellers was elected to the office in 1992.

“I have enjoyed working for the citizens of Clay County,” said Sellers. “My dad (Timber Wood) worked for Precinct 4 for 20 years, and I have been with the county for 25.

I have enjoyed my job and I hope I have done a good job for each of you,” she said. “I hope you elect someone you can trust and that will take care of your needs,”

Seller’s term ends Dec. 31, 2012.
