Kenneth Ray Jones of Petrolia


Kenneth Ray “K.R.” Jones, 72, of Petrolia, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at the First Baptist Church of Petrolia with Rev. Aaron Lindsey officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.

Mr. Jones was born Jan. 18, 1939 to Viola (Sanders) and J.H.B. Jones in Petrolia. He graduated from Petrolia High School in 1958. He and Maurine Fincher married in Petrolia in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960-62, stationed in Okinawa prior to the start of the Vietnam War. In March of 1964, he joined the Odessa Police Department. In 1970, he was promoted to patrol sergeant. In 1975, he was transferred to the detective division and was eventually promoted to lieutenant. Less than one year later, he became deputy chief of the Odessa Police Department. In January of 1983, he attended the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. In a class of 250 officers, Mr. Jones graduated in the top 10. He retired in 1989 from the Odessa Police Department. He was a 32nd degree Mason.

He is survived by wife Maurine Jones of Petrolia; son Mark L. Jones of Odessa; daughter Kim Sheehan and husband Greg of Odessa; a sister, Cora Lee Thornton of Petrolia; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
