Dean man loses home to early morning fire

An early morning fire has left a Dean man without shelter.

The blaze was reported at 4:10 a.m. Friday at the home of Lee McCloud, 6789 St. Hwy. 79 N. Fire fighters from Dean and Jolly responded.

Sheriff Kenny Lemons said the cause of the fire is not known at this time, but is suspected to be electrical in nature. McCloud had recently wrapped water lines in the house with electric heat tape to prevent freezing. The fire is believed to have started in a laundry room.

When fire fighters arrived, the side of the house where the laundry room is located was fully engulfed.

Lemons said two small dogs and an older Labrador retriever did not get out of the house. Red Cross has made contact with McCloud.

Damage to the home is estimated $50,000 to $60,000.
