Jenna Cherish Dickerson, accused of killing her father Nov. 13, has been indicted on one count of first degree murder by a Clay

County Grand Jury Monday afternoon.

John Derek Hamlin, 46, died of a single gunshot wound to the chest in his home on FM 2393, north of Dean.

Dickerson, 26, of Wichita Falls, told investigators during a Nov. 14 interview that she had cocked and pointed a pistol at Hamlin as he walked toward her, firing the gun one time.

Sheriff’s deputies found the body of Hamlin inside his home at about 1:17 a.m., Nov. 13. Deputies responded to the residence, at 4149 FM 2393 after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance.

The caller, then unidentified, said her “best friend had just shot her dad, and he is dying.” Deputies, state troopers and Dean first responders were dispatched.

The deputy first to arrive on scene was flagged down by a woman later identified as Gina Maria Taylor, 35, the girlfriend of the victim. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Dickerson, who was lying on the porch, directed the deputy into the house through a back door. He found Hamlin in the master bedroom with a 22-caliber pistol nearby.

Two witnesses were interviewed and released, one of which was Dickerson. The other witness was Hamlin’s girlfriend, said Sheriff Kenny Lemons.

Dickerson was arrested Wednesday, Nov. 16. Bond was set at $250,000.

Dickerson’s was one of four indictments handed down Monday.
