Bearcats defeat Tigers on FT line

Henrietta's Nick Powell picks up a rebound Tuesday night against Electra. Powell led the Bearcats with 16 points and 12 rebounds in the team's 52-43 win.

With a flurry of fourth quarter free throws, Henrietta pulled away late in the game Tuesday night for a 52-43 win over Electra.

Nick Powell, Dalton Davidson and Ben Fletcher commanded Henrietta’s offensive output, combining for 41 points. Fletcher hit seven of eight free throw attempts, including three from charity in the final push.

Davidson gave Henrietta a 5-0 lead after the jump ball, opening the game with a three-pointer and a layup. He again found himself in the paint to answer Electra’s first points, 7-2.

Fletcher hit two free throws to give the Bearcats a 9-2 lead, but Electra fought back for an 11-point tie to close the first quarter.

Cole Burns landed a free throw in the first minute of the second half to regain the lead. It would be just enough as the Bearcats closed the first half ahead 22-21, following a pair of Davidson Layups, a Tommy Peevey free throw and a goal from outside the three-point arc.

Henrietta picked up the pace in the third quarter, outscoring the Tigers by four. Powell scored seven of the Bearcats’ 13 points in the period, including one of two free throws on an Electra technical. A trend started in the first quarter, Electra fought back from a slow start in the third. Henrietta held an eight-point lead as the period came to a close, but the Tigers narrowed the lead to four.

In the fourth quarter, Electra could not make the comeback.

The Bearcats opened the fourth with a Burns free throw and a three-pointer from Powell. Davidson completed a three-point play on the foul line to put the Bearcats up 42-37.

Fletcher put two more points on the board before Electra could respond. The Tigers came within three points of a tie game, but did not score again.

Powell had landed the top end of a one-and-one when Fletcher took the rebound, and a foul to add two points. Philip Davis and Powell sored Henrietta’s final points of the night on free throws.

Powell scored 16 points, followed by Davidson with 14 and Fletcher with 11 points and five assists. Davis scored six points. Peevey added three and Burns put up two points.

Powell also led the team in rebounds with 12, followed by Burns with nine. Powell and Davidson forced four steals each.
