Nettie Jim Carter of Henrietta


Nettie Jim Carter, 97, of Henrietta, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011 in Bowie.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, at the First Baptist Church of Henrietta with Rev. Jim Moses, Minister of Music, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in Henrietta.

Mrs. Carter was born Jan. 4, 1914 to James and Stella (Hankins) Stambaugh in Burkburnett. She was married to Hayden H. Carter, Sr. for 56 years. She was a mother and a housewife before becoming involved in the cosmetology profession. She owned Carter Beauty School in Wichita Falls and served on the Texas State Board of Cosmetology while training and encouraging many young people to enter the beauty business. She belonged to the Eastern Star and served as a Worthy Matron in Petrolia. She was a member of, and taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church of Henrietta for many years.

She is preceded in death by her husband; one son, Hayden Carter, Jr.; one daughter, Joyce Ann Bergin; a grandson, Patrick Bergin; two sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include one sister, Mary Lou Whitney of Salinas, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Gentry of Dallas; two grandsons; a granddaughter-in-law; five great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 1708 Dayton, Ste. B , Wichita Falls, Texas 76301.
