Petrolia’s boys earned a hard-fought win over Chillicothe in the semifinal round of the Clay County Classic basketball tournament Friday night, and will face Bellevue in the championship.
Despite getting outscored 13-11 in the fourth period, The Pirates defeated Chillicothe 57-41.
The Pirates outscored Chillicothe by six in each of the first three quarters. Petrolia took a 10-4 lead in the first quarter, and by halftime lead 27-15. In the third, Petrolia scored 19 to Chillicothe’s 13.
Tyler Colley led the squad with 25 points, including a three at the first half buzzer. Tyler Beechler scored 15, followed by Coby Acheson with 12, Jace Taylor with five and Adam Womble with two points.
Bellevue defeated Petrolia’s JV Thursday, 76-28, and on Friday beat Notre Dame. The championship game is set for 5 p.m.
In other round one results, Bryson defeated Chillicothe 55-53 in overtime, and Notre Dame defeated Christ Academy 68-28. The Petrolia JV, filling in for a team that dropped out, defeated Bryson in the consolation bracket 57-48, and Christ Academy 55-23. So that those two teams can get three games in, and since the JV Pirates were filling in, Bryson and Christ Academy will face off for consolation at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Chillicothe and Notre Dame will play for third place at 2 p.m.
