Petrolia girls move on to title game


Petrolia's Kaytlynn Flowers puts in two points during the second half of Friday's Clay County Classic semifinal.

After enjoying a bye in round one of the Clay County Classic, host team Petrolia dominated Bryson in the girls bracket Friday night.

With a 58-9 win over the Cowgirls, the Lady Pirates advance to the tournament championship. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Lady Pirates held Bryson scoreless with a nine-point run in the first quarter, and allowed only two in the second while posting 19 points. Bryson scored five points in the third, but couldn’t slow the Petrolia squad. The Lady Pirates poured in 16 points in the third, and added another 14 in the fourth.

Kaytlynn Flowers led the Lady Pirates with 16 points, including one three-pointer. Kirsten Kenyon followed with 11 points, and a three of her own. Katie Cummings scored 10 points, followed by Allie Ablia and Danica Bustos with eight points each.

Petrolia will face Bellevue in the title game.

The Lady Eagles defeated Petrolia’s JV girls 45-43 Thursday, and topped Notre Dame on Friday.

Also on Thursday, Bryson defeated Chillicothe 30-28 and Notre Dame topped Christ Academy 42-28.

Filling in for the two teams that dropped out, Petrolia’s JV defeated Chillicothe 61-33, and Christ Academy 42-17 Friday, but will not advance to the consolation title game. Chillicothe face Christ Academy Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

Bryson face Notre Dame for third place at 12:30 p.m.
