Both sides of this ol’ lake were “all shook up” last Saturday night. One laker, dozing in his recliner, thought someone was trying to carry him off, recliner and all! Another, already retired for the night, thought something was under her bed. Jan and J. B. Revier were watching TV when things in the room started shaking, the mirror waved and the fireplace tried to dance. She looked at he and said, “Hold my hand!” and he did. Although the tremor only lasted a few seconds, it made an impression none of us will ever forget. We were nearly asleep when we heard and then felt what we thought was the cat skydiving…. What’d we know? There was another tremor about 3:30 a.m but we slept through that. I’m guessing most folks did. What’s up next?
And speaking of what’s up… Friends of the Park have a work day scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Rocks will be moved from the east side of the lake to the State Park for the new Wildscape area… We should be through by noon and Bill Coombs has said he’ll provide the lunch, chili dogs! FOP will have a booth at the Farmers Market during the City of Lights parade Saturday, Nov. 19, 4 p.m.–9 p.m., in Wichita Falls.
FOP will have a float in the parade. I think Tony Welch and the two boys, Damien and Seth, will be manning the float and Park Super is driving.
Wednesday, Nov. 9, the area support group, Make Today Count, will meet from 10 a.m.-noon at Arrowhead Baptist Church. Men and women are welcome to attend. Anyone coping with a serious illness or the loss of a loved one are encouraged to attend. If you’re a caregiver, please, don’t hesitate to join us. For more information, call Mona at 723-5786 or Pat at 528-2268.
LAVFD holds a business meeting the second Thursday of each month. It’s Thursday the 10th at 6:30 p.m. You are welcome to attend. Mike Hall is Fire Chief.
Renegade Red Hatters will meet at Bela’s Italian Restaurant, 412 Ave D, Friday, Nov. 11. Look out, Burkburnett! You can take the Daniels Exit or the one after that and turn left under the overpass, stay on that road to downtown Burk, I’m told it’s near or next door to the Dollar Store… we’ll find it, girls! There’s nothing more exciting than 17 lost Red Hatters! That might put SAFB on red alert, for sure!
The folks at Arrowhead Baptist Church are putting on their annual Thanksgiving feed, or should I say feast? It’ll be Sunday the 20th and everyone is welcome to come… you don’t have to be a member, just be hungry!
Tuesday, Nov. 19 is the date of the Henrietta Senior Citizens’ annual pre-Thanksgiving bake sale. There’s some special treats at this sale, treats made just for the season. They are special, too, because our working ladies can buy these homemade “goodies” instead of having to bake the night before or that day. Hopefully, we’ll have “goodies” to please every palate. It starts early, 7:30 a.m., and lasts ‘til 12:30 p.m. or we run out.
Don’t forget to vote today!
