Collinsville sinks Petrolia in battle of Pirates


In a battle of the Pirates, Petrolia was pounded by Collinsville Friday, 42-0.

Collinsville racked up 448 yards offense. All but six yards came on 31 carries. Collinsville connected on one of six pass attempts for six yards.

The Collinsville defense stifled Petrolia’s ability to move the ball. Petrolia connected on four of 16 pass attempts for 40 yards. Quarterback Brady Mataska and receiver Colby Acheson teamed up on three of those for 34 yards. Petrolia averaged less than two yards per carry, gathering 54 yards rushing on 24 carries. Will Morath shouldered the brunt of Petrolia ground game with 13 carries for 22 yards.

The loss drops Petrolia to 1-3 in district, and out of the playoff picture. The Pirates are 3-6 this season. Collinsville remains undefeated in district at 4-0 and 7-2 for the year.
