Pecan Shed honored with ribbon cutting

The Henrietta and Clay County Chamber of Commerce met at The Pecan Shed Wednesday for a ribbon cutting to honor the business, one of its newest members. On hand for the ribbon cutting, among others were Doris Payne, Helen Galliton, Molly Montz, Jill Montz, Amy Payne, Chamber President Kay Lynn Gonzenbach, Joe Parker, Jr., Tim Montz, Jeff Pierce and Kathy Pierce.

Henrietta and Clay County Chamber of Commerce members made the drive to Wichita Falls Wednesday to hold a ribbon cutting for its newest member, The Pecan Shed and Montz Orchard.

The Pecan Shed and Montz Orchard are owned by the Montz family of Charlie. The Pecan Shed is operated by Molly and Jill Montz, while the orchard is operated by Tim and Jake Montz. The orchard was founded in 1987 on 220 acres in Charlie. The area offers some of the best soil for pecan trees in the state and plenty of irrigation water.

The original orchard was made up of 8,000 trees. At last count, according to The Pecan Shed web site, the orchards included 25,000 trees on 500 acres. The orchard consists mostly of Pawnee, Wichita, Cheyenne and Choctaw varieties.

The Pecan Shed, located at 1401 Midwestern Parkway, offers everything from shelled pecans to homemade fudge and Texas-themed gifts.
