County lifts burn ban due to rains

The burn ban for Clay County has been lifted. The ban on all outdoor burning with a few exceptions had been in place since the beginning of the year.

Clay County Judge Kenneth Liggett lifted the ban at 11 a.m. Wednesday, following the recommendations of two county commissioners. Commissioners discussed lifting the ban during their Oct. 10 regular session, but decided to hold off until the threat of wildfire could be further assessed. The decision comes after two large rains, one Sept. 17 and another on Oct. 8.

The rains allowed the county to “green up”, even though North Texas continues to face exceptional drought conditions.
