Nelson Hopkins of Henrietta


Nelson Hopkins, 91, of Henrietta, passed away on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011 in Henrietta.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, at the First Baptist Church in Henrietta with Rev. Randy Osborn, pastor, officiating and Rev. Jim Moses assisting. Masonic graveside services will be at Hope Cemetery in Henrietta under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in Henrietta.

Mr. Nelson was born January 27, 1920 in Clay County Texas to George T. and Cora (Kosanke) Hopkins. He married Eva LaRue Zuber on Oct. 31, 1940 in Henrietta. He served his country in the U.S. Army in WWII. He was a contract pumper and farmer as well as a member and a Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Henrietta. Mr. Nelson was also a member of the Henrietta Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include two sons, Ben F. Hopkins and wife Georgia of Dallas, Winston Hopkins and wife Patty of Ottawa, Ill.; a daughter, LaNelle Freeze of Henrietta; a daughter-in-law, Gay Hopkins of Henrietta; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hopkins was preceded in death his wife LaRue Hopkins, son Lyndon Hopkins, sister Naomi Simpson and a brother Tully Hopkins.

Visitation will be Sunday Sept. 25, from 7-8 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Henrietta.
